Welcome to the United Rodeo Association Inc.
We recently received the following information from the very first URA Queen that we thought was very interesting and want share with you too. I'ts always nice to have such confirmation of our history... Sharon Garvin Dietz provided documentation of the first year of the URA with the below pictures of her buckle and that of her brother-in-law from the previous year. "My 1961 URA Queen Buckle and my brother in law Norman Johnson’s ARA buckle 1960. The URA was originated in 1961. It was American Rodeo Association and a conflict with another association was the reason it was changed to United Rodeo Association in 1961. The 1961 Rodeo Finals were held next to Hopley’s Truck Stop at his arena in Atlantic Iowa. Hopley was a stock contractor."
Since our founding in 1961, Winterset, Iowa, the United Rodeo Association Inc (URA), has proudly brought the excitement of rodeo to communities across the Midwest. From our early days to the present, we've remained committed to delivering quality family entertainment paired with championship-level competition in your local arenas.
At every URA event, you'll see dedicated cowboys and cowgirls showcasing their talents in thrilling events that honor and celebrate the Western lifestyle. These athletes give it their all—not just for glory, but to provide an unforgettable experience for fans of all ages.
Behind every successful rodeo is a hardworking local committee that brings the event to life. We deeply appreciate the tireless efforts of these teams and the support of the communities they serve. Sanctioning regional rodeos year round, primarily in the midwestern USA states. The Finals for the season is held in the fall when we crown the champions in nine events.
Thank you to everyone—fans, volunteers, athletes, and organizers—who make each URA-produced event possible.
We’ll see you at the rodeo!
