Bareback Riding
Chance Vick teamed up with Rite N Gear Rodeo Company's Magic Tales for an 81-point ride and the go-round win. Justin Williams took second with a 79 point ride, and Billy Griffin scored 78 points for third place. A.J. Colletti earned his second check of the weekend with a 74 point ride.
Justin Williams leads the average with 158 points on two head, with Billy Griffin close behind at 156 points. Chance Vick has 151 points on two rides, and AJ Colletti is fourth in the average with 147 points on two head.
Steer Wrestling
John Traul won a rapid steer wrestling go round as he threw his steer in 4.67 seconds. Brandon Volker took another step towards a year-end championship with his second place run of 4.82 seconds. Rick Morgan took third in 5.02 seconds, just ahead of Jeff Miller's 5.07 second run.
Volker leads the average with 10.80 seconds on two runs, barely ahead of Rick Morgan, who has thrown his two steers in 10.82 seconds.
Team Roping
Chad Kimbrough's partner went down with an injury after the first go round, but Kimbrough didn't let that stop him from picking up a check in round two. Kimbrough teamed up with Troy Gorrell to win the second round with a time of 5.56 seconds. Donnie McNeece and Travis Alford were close behind with a time of 6.50 seconds, and Seth Kueffer and Brad Abernathy picked up third-place money for their 6.69 second run.
Bryan Reiter and Sam Kueffer lead the average after two rounds. Their time of 13.46 seconds is narrowly ahead of Scott Spurgin and Ryan Spurgin, who have a total time of 14.55 seconds.
Breakaway Roping
Dani Miller rebounded from a miss in the first round to catch her calf in a round-winning time of 2.47 seconds. Breakaway roping director Jennifer Sells was close behind in 2.67 seconds. Jodi Nelleson picked up a third place check for her 3.29 second run, and Danni Knutson was fourth in 3.87 seconds.
Nathan Ponder leads the average with a total time of 8.31 seconds on two head, just ahead of Danni Knutson's 8.65 total time. Cody Huber, Kristen Krull, and JoLaine Varner have also caught both calves.
Saddle Bronc Riding
Matt Ory moved into the lead in the average by winning the second go round with a 78 point ride. Tom Fisher rode the 2007 Saddle Bronc of the Year, Jet Ski from the Buffington Rodeo Company, to 75 points and second place. Nathaniel Skipper was third with a 74 point ride, one point ahead of Rob Sperry.
Ory leads the average, and Andrew Leeper has also whistled up on both horses. From there, the average is wide open as no other cowboys have two scores.
Forty and Over Calf Roping
Cushing, OK, cowboy Marty Brock roped and tied his calf in 9.17 seconds for first in the go round. Phil Griffith had a second-place time of 9.48 seconds, just ahead of Dan Davis's 9.49 second run. Kent Joy was fourth with a 10.33 second run.
With one round remaining, Bryan Reiter leads the average (20.51 seconds on two runs), and Tim Kraus is second. Marty Brock and Allen Hartness are close behind.
Barrel Racing
Knocked over barrels doomed six cowgirls' hopes on Friday night. The youngest contestant, Bailey Sue Morris, ran the cloverleaf pattern in 14.207 seconds, good for a first place check and a belt buckle. Kari Schlatter was close behind with a 14.489 second run. Jordon Talbot took third with a 14.565 second run, and Sharon Clark was fourth in 14.570 seconds.
After two rounds, Morris leads the average, followed by Schlatter and Tylene Windle.
Calf Roping
Brady Wilson lit up the arena on Friday night, tying his calf in 8.17 seconds to win the go round. Jason Arndt was second in 9.49 seconds, and Buck Sells was close behind with a 9.58 second run. Jeff Miller picked up a fourth place check for his 10.11 second run.
Miller now leads the average by over three seconds, having compiled a time of 19.09 seconds on two runs. Michael Gilman (22.41 seconds), Jared Kempker (22.77 seconds) and Cody Griffith (22.99 seconds) are fighting for average money with one round to go.
Bull Riding
Cody Stephens spurred his way to first place and 82 points during Friday's go round. Chris Carroll and Jake Diercks split second and third with a pair of 78 point rides. Steve Tracy scored 75 points for fourth place in the round.
Cody Stephens leads the average with 157 points on two head. Chris Carroll is close behind with 155 points, followed by Timothy Vaughn's 151 and Steve Tracy's 149 points.
